The role of a consulting business analyst is so varied from one client to the next and project to project. It's hard to come up with a one size fits all definition. In simple terms a consulting business analyst partners with the clients and the internal teams to deliver the best solution to the client. I act as a liaison between the client and the internal team that actually works on the project. I work directly with employees or at arms length if necessary. I determine inefficiencies. This is done by analyzing the needs of the clients and determining if the business meets those needs as efficiently as possible. Examples of solving employee related inefficiencies include expanding staff in an overworked department, downsizing a little-used department to save money or assigning work to different employees to optimize workload output.
